Once you have a digital camera, you?re on the right track to taking much better photos. But perhaps you?re unsure of how to get the best out of your camera and feel that your skills are lacking. Improving the quality of your photos can be achieved with some fairly basic and simple steps.

Keep a level picture unless you are looking for a special angle: Try to hold the camera level by aligning it with natural horizontal lines, like the horizon. This will give you a classic picture. However part of the fun of photography is experimentation, so take a few snaps of different angles to get an interesting perspective on your picture.

Portrait photos: Avoid putting the subject in the center of the frame. This is a habit most people find hard to break. Remember to move close and put the subject slightly off center. Again take more than one photo with a portrait if possible. Zoom in for a close up of just your subject or make a complete picture a little further away by including a favorite pet or another person. Always experiment with different angles and poses to make your photo more interesting.

Be careful of lighting and exposure with your photos. If indoors, make sure you have a strong light on your subject. If outdoors, be careful of strong sunlight. The best time to take your photos outside is first thing in the morning.

Think about the focus of your picture, when you frame the shot. If you are trying to capture the expression on your child?s face, you can leave out the other children, the swing, the dog, etc. You can do this by zooming in and taking a close up or you can put the background out of focus so that only your subject is standing out. This can make quite an interesting picture.

Always be conscious of the background. Many good photos are ruined by clutter in the frame. Change your position to avoid a messy background.

A small tripod can give you a much better shot, by lending stability. Tripods are not meant only for professionals, as some people think. Using a self-timer can put you in a number of pictures, where you are usually not visible. This is great for a family or group photo.

Get a media card with plenty of memory, so you will not run out of space, at a crucial time. Shoot at the highest resolution allowed by your camera, to get the best results and sharper enlargements. Upload your photos to a picture gallery like Yahoo. You can just send the link to friends and family instead of sending large picture attachments. You can also select the photos you want printed and have them developed within 24 hours.

No one knows when exactly the first camera-type device was made. In fact, no one even knows what device came first in the market. The earliest recorded camera-device was the obscura, which became really popular during the Renaissance age when the artists in that era used it to trace the image that it projects from the tiny hole.

Daguerre s positive process

Photography, as a word, was used during the 1800s. In fact, it was in the year 1839 that the first photographic process was made public. After which, a number of light-sensitive materials were created and tested to capture the same image as that of the obscura. Eventually, the first successful photograph done was made by Louis Daguerre.

The picture that Daguerre made was captured in a silver-coated sheet of copper that used positive image. The photograph, which was entitled The Artist s Studio, was really fragile and difficult to reproduce.

Talbot s negative process

In 1839, other artists and scientists had discovered other photographic imaging techniques that they used in their profession. William Henry Fox Talbot, for instance, created the Calotype process, which used light-sensitive paper and produced instead a negative image in contrast to Daguerre s. Talbot s method, however, required long exposure time and will only work with inanimate objects. A person cannot hold still long enough for the photo to be taken. This is why the first recorded photographs taken using Talbot s process were all architectural and landscape.

By the year 1840, man began to discover more sophisticated techniques. The procedure improved and the exposure time began to shorten. This is the time when portrait became the rage especially among the rich class who can afford the procedure.

Discoveries that changed the face of photography

Photography became a separate and thriving field in the arts. Starting from black and white cameras to Polaroid cameras that can produce the picture in an instant, the field had one important discovery after another. This helped the field flourish from being used in portraits, photographs have now become important tools in media.

Digital photograohy

Then, digital photography came into the scene and made the process of photography even easier than before. With the digital process, there is no need to buy films and develop pictures in the dark room. One can store the images in the computer and print them the same way one would print any file in the computer.

This content is provided by Low Jeremy and may be used only in its entirety with all links included. For more info on Photography, please visit http://photography.articlekeep.com.

Using your camera’s basic exposure controls does not have to be a challenge. Here’s how to use the aperture priority and shutter priority modes to take better photographs.

When you use the aperture mode, you control how large the lens opening is. With a small lens opening, you can have a very sharp focus on one object in your picture, but objects that are not the same distance from the camera will not be as sharp. That’s because of what’s called depth of field. In other words, at what distance away from the camera are objects in sharp focus. If the lens opening (aperture) is small, you have a narrow depth of field. If you’re photographing a flower, you may only want objects 12″ to 15″ to be in focus to get a super-sharp image of the flower.

If the aperture opening is larger, objects up close and not so close to the camera can both stay in focus (greater depth of field). At a large aperture opening, you might have objects in focus from 3″ to as far as you can see. To compensate for adjusting the aperture, when you increase or decrease the aperture, your digital camera will adjust the shutter speed up or down.

A small aperture and a slow shutter speed is great if you’re taking a close-up of a flower and want it to be extra-sharp. But if you’re photographing a moving object, you must have your shutter speed set fast enough to stop the motion. This needs to be at least 1/125th of a second if you are following the motion with your camera. This will put the object in motion in focus but blur the background. If you are holding the camera still and shooting a scene with motion in it, you probably need your shutter speed to be anywhere from 1/250th to 1/1000th. When the shutter speed is increased, there will be less time for light to come through the lens, so the lens opening (the aperture) must be larger to compensate. You can control the shutter speed in the shutter priority mode. Then the camera will adjust the aperture to match.

The best way to learn about how to use your camera’s aperture priority and shutter priority modes is to practice when you’re not under pressure. Don’t wait until you’ve traveled to an exotic garden to learn to photograph flowers or until you’re at a racing event to learn to freeze motion with a fast shutter speed. Practice controlling depth of field by having a friend hold up a sign with the settings you’re using. Take several photos with different setting. Then study the photos to see the results. If you’re going to a race, practice photographing cars on the highway, but put your friend in the foreground with a sign again showing your camera settings. This will give you a quick, practical education.

Nudity is an art form even in the time of the Greeks. This can be seen in the various statues that were made which depicted the Gods to the paintings done by sculptors and painters until today. Not everyone is talented in doing this so people who want to excel in this art form will use the camera and bring this out.

Nude photography can be done showing either half or the entire body. This can be done in various poses and locations, which has made people perceive this to be pornography. There are no rules classifying one from the other and this will all depend on the opinion of the viewer.

Anyone can shoot a nude model using a camera. In order to save time, more professionals prefer to use a digital model so that an image can be taken again if the proper lighting was not achieved.

This also allows the specialist to shoot more than a hundred shots in one session without the need to change the film that was done conventionally in the past.

Point and shoot is the only way to get the desired image. First timers who want to get into the business of photography are advised to use digital cameras because the user an adjust the settings to get the right contract and color.

This will make the individual more focused in shooting at different angles instead of worrying how it will look when it is developed.

The key to getting the right nude photograph depends on three things. The first is a good digital camera. There are different brands out there and each of these can help start the artist s career.

The second is the model. This person should be someone who is open and comfortable being nude in front of the camera. Some people have shot the woman with clothes on first before deciding to take it all off.

The location is not that hard to find compared to the first two. This is can be done anywhere such as the beach or the park because natural light can really bring out the skin color of the model.

Nude photography may have some erotic element every time someone sees it. This just proves that sex sells and magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse among others are making a lot of money from it.

Those who want to start a career in nude digital photography should use these three elements and become famous from it.

Low Jeremy maintains digital-photography.articlesforreprint.com. This content is provided by Low Jeremy. It may be used only in its entirety with all links included.

The cameras of the past did not have that much clarity or depth. Even with the development of the lens which allows the user to focus in on images, this did not yet make photographers completely satisfied after a take.

Fortunately, the digital age has brought about the creation of the SLR camera. This single reflex unit allows the user to produce quality images from pressing the button till it comes out when it has been developed.

The SLR is quite expensive. One unit costs about $5,000 and upgrading the lens to reach farther will be another expense. This is probably why many advise to have this insured in case this gets lost or damaged.

Here are some of the known brands of SLR camera?s worth checking out in the market.

1. The first is the Nikon D2x digicam. Though its features are almost the same like others in the market, it comes with a GPS recorder so that the person can remember when and where it was taken so this can be done again.

The pictures can be downloaded to a laptop so the pictures can be printed or developed in the store.

2. Another great SLR camera is the Canon EOS-1DS Mark 2 Digicam. This model enables the person to shoot in any environment. This has better shots per second than the first one mentioned which is great for shooting moving objects.

3. The Kodak DCS Pro is another camera worth checking out. This lightweight model can use Nikon accessories and lenses to be able to get those shots that other units cant.

These units are just one of many that are available in the market. The price of each are not that far apart so it will really depend on how comfortable the user is. Some hobbyists have used one brand for a number of years and decided to stick to it.

In order to keep these in good condition, the owner must also know how to properly store or clean these items. The cover must always be placed on the lens when not in use and should be wiped after each use.

Some people who are not happy with the cover can use a filter which is better protection from dirt, fingerprints or crashes.

A lot of stores usually sell the SLR camera with a bag but others usually buy a bigger one to hold other equipment and accessories.

The digital SLR camera is one innovation that is here to say. Though it may hurt the pocket in getting one, the shots taken will be rewarding.

One of the least explored creative uses of the digital camera is black and white photography. With a little practice in developing an eye for when it will be effective, taking photos in black and white can be a rewarding addition to your photographic repertoire.

The biggest problem beginning photographers have when experimenting with monotone photography is knowing how to look at a picture with grayscale in mind. Color tone, or contrast, takes on a much larger importance, since the ordinary color distinctions are lost. Training your eye to register color intensity takes some effort. To help speed up this process, use the black and white setting on the camera. Although there is no real advantage to this from the imaging standpoint, since even free photo editors admirably convert images to grayscale and sepia monotones, when you change the camera setting, the display changes, letting you actually see the picture as it will be. This helps to spot problems with color tones blending together, unwanted shadows, and other problems that wouldn’t be noticeable in color. Practicing previewing in this way can help educate your eye, and soon you will become aware of the distinctions even without the camera.

With the removal of color, the photographer must look at his prospective image with new eyes: Linear patterns and shadows can be much more striking in black and white than in color. Look for lines and shapes that define the images - photos that would be quite ordinary in color take on drama in monotones. The ratio of darks to lights (contrast) affects your shot more drastically as well. To create a delicate sense, you can fill the image with light area, creating an otherworldly look. A more somber shot might have a higher ratio of dark space. Experiment with mood - it can often be more easily expressed with the simplicity of black and white.

Black and white portrait photography can produce extraordinary results. The loss of color can mean the loss of many potential defects - blemishes, flushes, red noses and the like can fade away, leaving a more flattering shot than one truer to the real thing. Careful lighting can either accentuate features like wrinkles, or reduce them. Try to choose the lighting to help show what you want to say. Generally, it is best to fill the frame with your subject, unless there is something in the background that is important to the story you are telling about him. Remember, simple images are often the strongest.

Scenery photography can also be more dramatic in black and white. One of the problems in photographing distant points is haze that washes out the colors. This is no problem in black and white! Bring out nature’s drama by using light and dark rather than color. Anyone who has doubts about nature photography in black and white need only look at Ansel Adams’ work.

Whether you’ve tried monotone photography before and haven’t been thrilled, or it’s a new experience for you, you can learn to take stunning photographs in this manner. The basic elements of good photography are the same - composition, contrast, depth of field, focus, lighting, exposure, etc. You just need to learn to see slightly differently - contrast, lighting and exposure have more impact on the final image, and need to be considered more carefully. However, with some practice (and with digital film there is no need to be stingy about the number of exposures), someday you may find your best photos to be in black and white.

Here is a compiled list of digital photography related software you can find in the market today.

Alteration of photos/graphics

Irfan View - Free and simple program. With this program not only can you change the way your graphics look but you can also create slide shows, cut and crop your graphics and convert your graphics and more. Ideal for batch processing.

Kodak EasyShare Software - A popular software program for editing, sharing and printing your pictures is the new which makes it even easier to organize, print and share your digital pictures.

ImageForge - ImageForge is a freeware image editor with painting and editing tools. Allows you to import images from scanners and digital cameras, apply special effects filters, and create photo albums and slideshows. Although this is teaser program for the shareware ImageForge PRO, it’s probably a few steps above Microsoft Paint.

VCW Vicman’s Photo Editor - This award-winning graphic editor offers a variety of painting and editing tools and features including a text tool, gradients, selections by color or region, color replacement, editing in any scale, special effects and so on. This free version is an enticement to upgrade to the Pro version for $29.95 US, so you can expect to put up with nag screens.

PhotoFiltre - Although it’s fairly limited in features, PhotoFiltre offers a simple, but elegant user interface and a lot of one-click image adjustments, filters, and effects. There is a built in image explorer panel for visually navigating your file system, basic drawing, painting, retouching and selection tools, and batch processing capabilities.

Ultimate Paint - Ultimate Paint is available in both shareware and freeware versions for image creation, viewing, and manipulation. It has been designed to be fast and compact, and if you’re familiar with the old Deluxe Paint program from Electronic Arts, Ultimate Paint is said to be very similar. The freeware version is an older release of the full-featured shareware product.

Whether you are a seasoned photographer or a novice, or just someone who want to do photography as a hobby, the first thing you need to be clear on is, what exactly is digital photography?

Digital photography is the use of a digital camera to capture / take an image that can be viewed on a computer screen. The main benefits of digital photography are:

You can see the result of your work right away

You can delete unwanted photographs instantly

You can easily and cheaply edit your photographs by improving the tone, retouching some areas, adding background etc.

Digital photographs can be send instantly via email

Except for batteries you do not need to constantly buy items to use in digital photography such as films.

Next you will need to decide on the type of digital camera to buy. This will of course depend on the following factors:

How much money you can spend

What is your goal, that is, why do you need to take digital pictures: business, hobby, personal What functionality do you want with your camera

There are two basic types of digital camera, the DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) and automatic. If you are really serious about digital photography you will want to get yourself a DSLR since this type of camera gives you more control.

In making a decision on type of digital camera also explore the types of storage media available and see which one may be best for you. The two most popular storage media for digital camera are flashcards (digital film) and microdrives. The storage media in a digital camera is really important; it is what holds the pictures. It is important to read reviews and talk to other users of digital cameras to determine the type of memory, and the capacity of the memory (how much images can it hold) you will need. I recommend flash cards since they have no moving parts and are more reliable.

After you have decided on the type of digital camera to purchase, you must now look at the other types of equipment you need to make a success of digital photography. A good personal computer and printer is needed, especially if you do not wish to pay to have your pictures printed elsewhere.

Your computer is important because this is where you will download, store, edit, review and any number of other things to your photographs. If you are using an older computer, make sure your operating system is compatible with the camera and software you will be using.

If you plan to do this professionally, you will also need to invest in software to help you get the most out of your digital photographs. Software used by professional digital photographers include Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady.

How to take great digital photographs

There are seven main steps to ensuing that you take professional looking digital photographs. These are:

Subject: Pose your subject with care. Even with the best software some faults cannot be totally corrected.

Lighting: Right light is important in digital photography as the appearance of your subject will be affected if lighting is wrong. Too harsh a light will show up wrinkles

ISO calibration: To ensure that your pictures don t come out looking like they were done by a total novice, check to ensure that your camera is properly calibrated. Getting the right camera setting can be the difference between brilliant pictures and blah.

Composition: Good photography is an art form, so your background is as important as your subject. Too much clutter in your picture will make the result look unprofessional.

White balance: If you want to ensure that your photograph has natural looking colors, then make sure to manually set the white balance.

Don t be afraid to experiment: Do creative crazy things with your camera, the results may just surprise you. Remember, with a digital camera you can always delete the images if you do not want to keep them.

Zoom and flash: Practice using these features until you find what works best in different situations.

One point to remember about digital photography is that it cannot turn a lousy photography into a professional overnight, but with practice and learning you can become good at photography using a digital camera. And, with enough talent, business savvy, luck, downright determination and love of the craft you might even be able to turn it into a business venture.

Robert Provencher has been a professional portrait and wedding photographer for over 25 years. He has trained hundreds of professional photographers throughout North America in live workshops and through his online forum. Robert has authored several manuals on digital photography and photogaphy marketing. http://www.nobsphotosuccess.com

Digital cameras have been around for a number of years. If the individual has a lot of fun using it, perhaps it is time to move up by investing in something better that is available in the market. Technology has paved the way for the creation of the digital SLR camera.

The SLR stands for single lens reflex. In fact, many photographers have decided to use this more often. This is because it gives the user more control in the look of the final product.

When the SLR first came out, this was sold at about $5,000 a piece. With the increasing demand in the market, manufacturers have came out with different models so the average person can buy one of these for less than a thousand. Those who want to do better with the more affordable version then will have to buy extra lenses.

The SLR stands out because of the lens used in the camera. This just proves that the piece of glass in this device really makes a difference when the pictures are developed. The user can change the lens to get a farther shot but this will really boil down to the contrast and color.

Another nice feature about the SLR is that it comes with controls allowing the owner to change certain things in the photo before it is downloaded and printed. This may be complicated for those who are not familiar with it so the user should get comfortable with the camera before using it.

Since the SLR is quite expensive, it will be a good idea to get proper insurance for it. This device fetches a good price in the market if someone should stumble into one which will really hurt anyone?s pocket should this be stolen.

There are many brands of SLR cameras in the market. All of these manufacturers have been in the business for quite some time, which makes it hard to recommend which one is the best to invest in.

Photographers and other hobbyists then should go with the brand that the individual is familiar with and use this to get those digital SLR shots. After all, this is the only way to use this piece of equipment and get the money?s worth out of this investment.

The owner should also know how to store and clean the SLR camera. It is only with proper maintenance and storage that excellent shots can be taken every time this is brought out.

Digital photography lighting may utilize the same light as film cameras, but these cameras have very different ways of reading, interpreting, and dealing with it.

Digital photography lighting presents many challenges, not the least being that some CCD sensors still lack the broad exposure latitude of color films.

This means that some digital photos taken in strong light conditions, may have empty shadows and blown out highlights.

However, this is exactly where these cameras have the upper hand! They offer you the opportunity to test your understanding of digital photography lighting conditions, and to learn from previous mistakes!

Most digital cameras have preset digital photography lighting modes, or “scenes”, which have been carefully set up to deal with a wide variety of lighting situations.

To give an example: a camera such as the popular Olympus SP500 Ultra Zoom has 21 preset scenes. If a more challenging digital photography lighting situation arise, you can easily choose any one of these to get the perfect shot.

The ‘night & portrait’ scene is for shooting both your main subject, and an illuminated background in the night. This setting uses a slower than normal shutter speed.

Then there is the “museum” setting which is optimized for shooting without a flash (or sound!) in a museum, or art gallery - or when your kid is sleeping… This is where the versatility of digital photography lighting clearly shows itself.

With digital photography lighting, most cameras have various options for white balancing. This is the process of determining what will be the baseline white in your image, relative to which other colors are rendered.

Digital cameras boast options such as daylight, cloudy, shade, and tungsten. Most cameras also have an automatic setting for white balancing.

Many of these cameras also display a histogram to help judge exposure (under or overexposure) in different digital photography lighting situations.

What about lighting equipment? You don’t necessarily need expensive lighting equipment. For example, if you’re taking informal portraits of your family and friends, you can easily start with something such as the Screwfix double 500W site light set including a telescopic tripod.

To help you master both the technical and creative aspects related to digital photography lighting, Michael Freeman has written ‘Digital Photography Expert: Light & Lighting: The Definitive Guide For Serious Digital Photographers’.

He includes 350 photographs to demonstrate the most important techniques. He explains the full spectrum of light, how the camera measures it, as well as how to get color accuracy in your digital images.

If you want to fully explore how to use post-processing in Photoshop to achieve a variety of digital photography lighting results, you may want to study ‘Creative Photoshop Lighting Techniques, Revised and Updated’, by Barry Huggins.

Huggins explains techniques such as how to bring sunshine into cloudy day pictures, and to create underwater effects. You can also find out about light sources, and different types of light, such as candlelight and neon.

The message of these authors are clear: practice, practice, practice makes for perfect digital photography lighting!

You have probably noticed — digital photography is becoming more and more popular. It seems that everyone has a digital camera. Digital cameras are even built into some cell phones. Digital cameras, like all the other digital items we see around us, is into the main stream of our society. Like digital movies, digital music and a host of other things, digital photography is here to stay. There are many reasons for the popularity of digital photography.

First, digital pictures are extremely versatile; they can be uploaded to websites for others to view, they can be sent in emails, they can be put into virtual scrapbooks or tangible scrapbooks by printing them out on high resolution printers that are very affordable.

Digital photography can produce pictures that can be viewed on your TV set or your computer monitor.

You can make calendars, personalized cards, coffee mugs, t-shirts and much more with digital pictures.

Most people like the fact that with digital photography you can skip the photo processing and all the expense that goes along with the old technology. You can even convert old photographic negatives into digital photographs! So, you can use your old film camera to produce digital photographs — but the best way is to get into digital photography by purchasing a digital camera.

Digital cameras are loaded with great features also. You will be able to preview pictures as soon as you take them; you can discard a picture you don’t like and retake it! You can crop digital pictures, or enhance them. There are a host of options available to anyone who desires to get creative with their digital photography. Some digital cameras will even act as a video recorder that offers video and sound.

Did I mention that you can take 100’s of pictures with many digital photography storage devices? And these storage devices are reusable!

Digital cameras are cheap these days. Of course it depends on what you buy, You can spend as little as $10 on a digital camera or up to $1,000 or more for digital photography like the pros do it. With the popularity of digital photography, comes the lowering of the price tags!

I fail to see why anyone would want to stick with the old film technology when digital photography has so many more advantages. Go ahead, take the plunge. Get into digital photography and have a great time with it.

As a photographer, architecture offers many different challenges, especially for the new photographer. Technically, buildings can be very demanding to photograph, but the key in solving this and attaining good images is understanding image distortion and finding the best time to capture the building at its most glamorous moment.

Image distortion: When we look at a standard building, we see lines running horizontal and vertical. These lines often appear distorted and will make your image look warped. Image distortion occurs when we choose the wrong point to take our picture or use the wrong equipment.

With most SLR cameras a certain amount of image distortion will occur. Shooting directly in front of the building will limit your options but will limit the amount of distortion in your image.

View cameras are ideal cameras for architectural photography. They minimise distortion and allow you to shoot from any angle. If you are serious about architectural photography, an investment in a View Camera is something to consider.

Your lens may also make your image look distorted. A wide-angle lens will make the front of the building look massive compared to the rear.

If you are photographing a tall building, don t shoot too near to the base. This will make the base of the building look too large compared to the top. Find a high advantage point, if possible, to take your picture.

Different light brings out different moods in a building. Just as with all other types of photography, studio photography being the exception, the time of day can make a big difference to an image. A building that looks plain and uninteresting during the day can be transformed by lighting at night. Also look out for photos that tell a story such as an office block with a single light on.

Side lighting will create long shadows along the front of the building adding mood to your image. Back lit buildings are extremely difficult to photograph and are only effective as a photograph when captured as a silhouette.

Most buildings are best captured at night and if possible shoot when there is detail left in the sky. You don t need the most costly camera gear on the market to get great building pictures at night - bring plenty of film and a good sturdy tripod.

Architectural photography doesn t finish when the outside of the building is finished. Images of the interior of buildings are also in demand with many agencies. Great care should be taken when photographing the interior as elements within the interior may be distracting to the final image result. Remove any object that may interfere with your image.

Industrial photography is also as demanding and rewarding as any other type of photography. Take extra care when approaching large structures, use standard photography techniques and use the light creatively to add humour and mood.

Architecture photography is very demanding, but the rewards are great for any person that masters the technique. But like all types of photography - practice makes perfect.

TJ Tierney is an award winning Irish Landscape photographer. For more tips you can visit his photography site. To view his images visit his on-line gallery of pictures of Ireland or see his travel site.

With the acceptable image quality and the other advantages of digital photography the majority of professional news photographers have begun capturing their images with digital cameras. Digital photography has also been adopted by many amateur snapshot photographers, who take advantage of the convenience of the form when sending images by email, placing them on the World Wide Web, or displaying them in digital picture frames.

Also, one big advantage of digital photography is the instant review of pictures, with no wait for the film to be developed: if there’s a problem with a picture, the photographer can immediately correct the problem and take another picture (up to hundreds of photographs on the same media device). Digital cameras have also been integrated into many cell phones. The photographer is able to color-balance and manipulate the image in ways that traditional darkroom science cannot offer, although film users can utilize the same technology with a film scanner. But digital cameras also tend to be much more sensitive to moisture and extreme cold. For this reason, photographers who work in remote areas, such as those who work for National Geographic overwhelmingly favor film SLR cameras. Many digital cameras can deliver only JPEG files.

Another format that may be encountered is RAW, which contain unprocessed image data straight from the camera’s image sensor. Compact digital cameras usually include zoom lens and flashes that cannot be changed, but digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR), operates on the same optical and mechanical principles as a film single-lens reflex camera, and offers the possibility to change lenses. Recent manufacturers such as Nikon and Canon have promoted the adoption of digital Single-lens reflex cameras (dSLRs) by photojournalists. Lenses in <a target="_blank" target="_new"href="http://www.photoaxe.com/">digital photography can be Telephoto lenses, Wide-angle lenss or Normal lenss, used for landscapes, portraits and close-ups (macros). Digital anti-shake tools (also called Image Stabilisation) allow taking sharp hand-held pictures where previously a tripod was required. Digital SRLs work also with RAW images containing unprocessed image data straight from the camera?s image sensor. Since the data isn?t processed on the camera the photographer will do so on the computer in order to get it into more usable formats like TIFF or JPEG. This method offers flexibility of the results regarding exposure, lighting, white balance, contrast, colours and saturation as well as greater creative control of the image.

From Canon, good compact cameras the Powershot A series, such as A520, A620, A700 and others, main difference between them being their megapixel image resolution and optical zoom. Canon PowerShot S3 IS is a type of camera that moves a step forward from compact to dSLR. As for the SLR?s and dSRLs, Canon comes with the Rebels: Digital Rebel XT, Canon EOS 200D, and Canon EOS 30D. Nikon is considered to be as good as Canon but sometimes cheaper: Nikon D40, Nikon D200, and Nikon D70. Other notable cameras are Olympus E-330, Fuji FinePix S9100, FujiFilm Finepix E900, Sony Cybershot DSC-W100, HP Photosmart R967 and many many others. Choosing a <a target="_blank" target="_new"href="http://www.photoaxe.com/category/cameras/">digital camera can be very difficult and the techniques are in constant progress so that these cameras get better and better, more and more powerful but still smaller, therefore some of them received the name ?pocket camera?.

Macro photography is underused by many amateur photographers. Professional photographer use macro photography to take extremely high quality macro photos that impress their viewers. Here are some facts about such macro digital photos.

We have all seen macro digital photos even if some of us did not realize that they were such. The two most common macro digital photos objects are flowers and insects. But macro photography is not limited to these objects. Creative photographers take macro photos of objects that you would never think of - and create astonishing digital photos. For example taking a macro photo of a simple screw that is half way screwed in a piece of wood can be an amazing digital photo if taken using the right techniques of lighting and macro photography.

So what is macro photography? There are many definitions that can be used. The most intuitive one is simple: digital photos that are taken from very close to the objects. Another definition is digital photos that present objects in real life sizes when printed on a 4X6 paper. Yet another definition extends this to a real life size (1:1 ratio) or better (i.e. bigger than in real life).

Professional photographers use special equipment that was designed specifically for macro photography. Special lenses, lens tube extenders, flash units such as ring flashes and more are used. There is no doubt that such equipment can help specially in scenes that are hard to photograph. But even the cheapest digital pocket camera is capable of pretty good macro photography if only used right by the photographer.

Practically all digital cameras can be put in a “macro mode”. Usually this mode is illustrated as a “flower icon” (probably because flowers are the most common object for macro photography). When you put the camera in a macro mode - the camera optimizes its settings for the best macro digital photo. If your camera allows manual control of some of its settings (like aperture and focus) you can improve the quality of the photos further more.

In macro mode the digital camera will set a wider aperture in order to achieve a narrower depth of field. This helps create a macro photo that is focused on a very close item with its background blurry. The camera will also optimize its focusing algorithms to focusing on a very close object. In fact in macro mode it will be hard to make the camera focus on objects in normal or infinite distances.

Some cameras also set the flash intensity to lower since the object is close less flash light energy is needed to light up the scene. Macro photography lighting is a complicated issue due to the close proximity of the object to the lens. A right angle, source and intensity of the flash are hard to achieve. For that reason it is always better to take macro digital photos in a highly lit environment like in daylight.

In conclusion - like most other photography techniques it is important to use macro photography in the right scenarios. It also takes a lot of practice to achieve high quality macro digital photos. For example if you want to get a macro photo of a bee on a flower - you need to learn how to lock the camera focus - press the shutter button half way while all the settings are set and wait for that bee to show up. Also take as many photos as you can so hopefully one of them will be the perfect one you were aiming at. Go out and start taking macro photos to practice your skills. It is a good idea not to limit yourself to flowers and insects, anything can be a good object, a nail, a screw or a piece of candy.

Digital Photography is a highly complex activity, with a steep learning curve and many advanced techniques that take years to master! However, we all have to start somewhere. So, here s a list of 5 Great Tips that will ultimately help you improve your digital photography, and set you off on the right foot.

1. Use a Tripod or Bean-Bag.

Yes, these can be such a pain to carry around, but they re definitely worth the time. Using a Tripod or alternative such as a bean-bag will add stability to your camera, meaning you have greater control over exposure times and composition. You ll also never see that annoying camera shake ruin a picture again whilst using a tripod!

2. Get a High Capacity Memory Card.

Have you ever had one of those photography days which is going perfect? The light was great, your subjects look fantastic, the weather is holding off, your capturing the shots you only dreamed of Then it happens.. Your Memory Card is full and you don t have a spare! You could manually sort through and delete, but it d take hours. It s a much better idea to spend a bit more and invest in a high capacity memory card. They re now available up to 8GB!!

3. Use a UV Filter.

Using a UV filter on your camera lens is a great idea. They re small circular pieces of glass that screw over the end of your lens, and offer great protection from scratches, dust, finger prints and also filter out UV rays, improving the color of your images. Best of all they re dirt cheap!!

4. Add Warmth To Your Tones.

The White-Balance settings on your digital SLR control the tonal effects of your images, so try experimenting with them. Don t think that just because a setting is called cloudy that you can only use it when it is cloudy! In fact, using the cloudy setting when taking pictures adds warmth. Perfect for a sunset or evening landscape shot.

5. Shoot, Shoot, Shoot!

This will obviously depend on your memory card size as discussed in point 2, but is still very important in trying to get those great shots. Simply put, do not rely on a single shot to capture a great image. Imagine taking time finding a fantastic composition, only to find later that the shot you took has a lens flare or dark shadow in it! Its very frustrating indeed! Take several shots for each composition, try slightly changing the angle each time. This way you can compare and choose the best one later. Remember you can always delete the images you don t want, that s the beauty of Digital Photography!

Macro photography is a fun way to get close up shots look stunning. If you want to get technical, the real definition of macro is the image on the film or sensor being as big as the actual subject. In this case, the camera lens must have the capability to focus on an area as small as approximately 24?36mm because this size is the size of the image on the sensor. This is frequently referred to magnification of 1:1.

What makes macro photography so enjoyable is that it?s intensely creative and powerfully flexible. You have a lot many opportunities around you right now then you think for macro photography. And you don?t need expensive digital photography equipment to do it, in fact the secret is in your lens.

Before we get into lenses in full detail, if you?re starting out in macro this type of photographic category can be a helpful starter to gaining new knowledge very quickly. You can learn new tricks and have fun experimenting in the comfort of your own home. Here are ten tips to getting sensationally clear, beautiful up close macro shots;

1. Always use a tripod. It?s important to get yourself a good quality tripod. A poor quality tripod will slip, and won?t hold the camera steady. You will get a lot of use from your tripod, so see it as an investment. You can use a good tripod for table work too, which is ideal for taking macro shots of flowers in a vase in your own home.

2. Look at your lens. It?s very important to get some good extension from your lens when taking macro shots. If you already own a macro lens have a look at the 2x tele-converter to double its effective focal length. A tele-converter lens will work to provide greater maximum magnification at the minimum focusing distance.

3. Use a shutter release cable. Using one of these very handy things will reduce any potential vibrations, movement or harmful blur. Add a self timer to your macro along with your shutter release cable to add razor sharpness to your images.

4. Don?t forget your mirror lock-up if you have this available to reduce camera vibration, movement or blur even more.

5. Remember that aperture affects depth of field. Using an aperture of between f16 and f32 is a good place to work with. You can also use a while aperture such as f2.8 which will give you a very shallow depth of field and then you can be very selective on what you want to focus on. 6. For beautiful flowers or parts of trees or bushes, remember a windy day will just frustrated you as it will most likely create blur and it will be very hard to capture your flower well. Try cutting it off the branch (if possible) and bring it inside. You can peg it up or put it in a vase to keep it still and out of the wind.

7. Keep a clean background in mind. A background with a lot of busyness is distracting. It will take the viewers eye off your main subject. Try a pure white background to emphasize cleanliness, or a pure black background to enhance bold colour. You can use neutral tones for macro such as pale blue or brown. All you have to do is use coloured paper.

8. Break the rules. I have never listened to anyone when taking macro pictures. I love to take weird, unusual, totally abstract subjects to include in my macro collection. You can also use metal as an interesting subject. (Jewellery, pins, forks, spoons, etc.)

9. If you don?t have adequate lighting then use your own. Don?t be afraid to use a lamp, or flash off-side, but not too close. You don?t want to overexpose your subject. You can try a torch if you like to create interesting shadows. And don?t forget black and white macro shots look fantastic too.

10. If you use a low ISO such as ISO 50 for example, just remember you?ll get better results for your macro shots. Since you should be using a tripod, a low ISO should not hinder you. Its fine to use anywhere from ISO 50 to ISO 200 for your macro shots. Any higher and you?d be getting nosier images. I?ve always set the ISO to the lowest setting when dong macro, such as ISO 50. I would recommend to use a noise reduction filter on your camera if possible or you can use some very nifty tricks for reducing noise after the shot has been taken. (See my blog with article about reducing noise at: www.DigitalPhotography.WordPress.com) If possible try shooting in RAW mode for the absolute best in image control at the post process level.

You will get a lot of inspiration by looking at images from professional photographers. Look and learn and then find your own style.

With all the planning that goes into your wedding, documenting it correctly is one of the most important things that you will have to do in planning your wedding. You want to ensure that when looking back at your wedding album several years down the road it will capture the moment in all its splendid wonder of what the occasion truly was. That is why choosing the correct photographer that suits not just your budget but also your style is very important.

1. Choosing the Right Person

Choosing the right photographer is almost like choosing the right partner, after all this is the person who will be capturing the most important day of your life through his or her lenses. It may surprise you, but there are couples who actually hire a photographer without first going through a portrait of his or her work first. Needless to say review the work done by the photographer. Ensure that you are meeting with the actual person who will be doing your wedding. Observe his or her style and determine if you like it, Ask questions about the photographs and discuss with the photographer ones you like and the ones you don t like. Your goal is to get a feel of who this person is and ensuring that you understand him or her and most importantly the photographer understands your needs. It is extremely important for your photographer to be professional in all respects. Does he or she dress professionally, personality wise it is good to have a photographer who is a people person and also punctual and knows his or her way to the venue and around the venue of the wedding.

2. Wedding Director or Wedding Photographer?

It is always wise to listen to advice especially good advice. Most photographers have done several wedding and know a few dos and don ts as far as wedding photography is concern. However bear in mind that not all professional photographers are professional wedding organizers. For example if your photographer makes a suggestion due to adverse lighting you would expect that they who has done several other weddings know what they are talking about. Listen to suggestions and always ask for your photographers opinion. Leave all the photo technicalities such as lighting, film and so forth to the professional. In the final analysis you will make the final decisions and nobody knows what you want more than you.

3. A Plan of Pictures

After choosing the correct photographer through getting to know him or her and your photographer getting to know you, your next step is drawing out a plan of pictures. This is when you meet with your photographer to discuss when and where your pictures will be taken. Know what you want and how you want it. Although I will encourage you to be specific about what you want, do not lay down too many rules. Keep in mind that your photographer is an artist and needs creative freedom to bring out the best when capturing the occasion.

4. Time is Money

In this case the saying, time is money could not be truer. It can be very difficult to determine a final price for your wedding pictures especially because there are so many variables that may affect the price including time. Many photographers are paid based on not just time, but overtime. Therefore bear in mind that the longer the wedding the more you might be paying for photography. Make a determination with your photographer the cost based on how long you expect your wedding to be. There is a wide pool of individual photographers and companies to choose from. There are many packages around. Spend your time to find the great deals as it will pay off handsomely. You would be surprise at the variations in price and packages in many locations. Although you should shop around for a reasonable price, never discount quality for mediocrity. Tip number one in choosing the right person should never be over looked in the final analysis.

5. Uncle Blake s Tapes

We have all seen the not so great tapes of a family members wedding that was done by another relative or friend. There is a growing trend for couples to have their wedding video taped. Professionally of course. There is a growing list of professionals who will videotape your wedding for a reasonable price. Over the years the quality has improved dramatically, with digital picture and sound. These videos are then edited in a studio where graphics and other effects are added. In almost all cases the end product is produce on a DVD capturing all the special moments live and in color. Having your wedding videotaped in most cases will cost you much less compared to photography. You can also decide to have a mixture of both videotape and still photos. With the mixture of the two you can limit the length of time you will need the photographer who will only take the most essential moments and have the rest videotaped.

Till Death do us Part

In the end your goal is have a wedding album that captures the essence of the occasion in all its glory. These will be the final testament for all to see including your children and grandchildren.

Digital photography is very popular these days. If you have recently shifted from film cameras to digital photography, it is essential that you understand the various terms and abbreviations associated with it:

A PIXEL It is the smallest part of a digital image. Pixels are combined with millions of other pixels to form a photo image. The resolution of digital cameras is expressed in terms of pixels.

The total quantity of pixels in a photo image is the RESOLUTION. The quality of the picture becomes sharper and better with the increase in resolution; more pixels mean better the quality.

One million pixels make a MEGAPIXEL. A picture with three or four megapixels will have much better quality than a picture with just one.

DPI (dots per inch) is used to describe the quality of a printer or computer monitor. Laser printers have about 300 dpi resolution, while monitors only have 72. Photo quality inkjet printers have a dpi of at least 1200 dpi. Here again, more the dpi, better the quality.

MEGABYTE represents computer memory. One megabyte equals one million bytes of file storage capacity.

JPEG stands for joint photographic experts group. It represents a format for storing images in digital cameras. JPEG files can be displayed easily on the Internet and e-mailed.

The digital files of all digital cameras need to be stored on a MEMORY CARD. The sizes of these cards depend upon the amount of storage capacity required. For convenience, buy as big of a card as you can afford. This is one computer-related storage space you?ll use all of, routinely.

LCD is an acronym for liquid crystal display. Most digital cameras have this feature so that the photographer can check the scene before clicking, then review the picture after taking the photo.

Happy clicking!
